My name is Omar Walcott and I am from Jamaica. I attended Shortwood Practicing Primary and Junior High school as a child growing up. Fortunately my talent led me to be drafted to the club team Shortwood United FC. This was where I spent my youthful days grasping the basic skills of the beautiful game of soccer. I then graduated to one of the most prominent high schools on the island, Calabar High. This was the turning point in my life. I was the first of my four siblings to attend a traditional high school of such fame and quality. I then received a soccer scholarship to attend Cincinnati State Technical and Community College in the United States of America, where I completed my Associates of Arts Degree and also played soccer for the school. My time spent at Cincinnati State was one of great success and achievement as the team won all its conferences throughout the time I spent there. I graduated on the seventh of May 2017. I have always been told to make sure that anything I do to give it my all, because it is the only way out of the community I lived while in Jamaica, the Grants Pen Community. Therefore, I made sure to do my best at everything I do, especially when it comes to soccer and my academic performance. The road to success is never easy but I was determined on moving on to a four-year institution to get my bachelor’s Degree. Through determination and hard work I was granted the opportunity to attend the University of Rio Grande and Rio Grande Community College to pursue my bachelor’s degree while playing soccer. This was another important chapter of my life as I had received another full scholarship to play the sport I adore so much.Throughout my time at the University of Rio Grande I have grown in many ways, both as a player and into the man I am today. Nevertheless, the experience that soccer has provided for me is one that I would not change for anything. Because of soccer I was able to go through a life of schooling for which I did not have to pay. There are just a few people that could probably say the same, so for that I am extremely grateful. I am proud to now say that I am a graduate of the University of Rio Grande with a bachelor’s in business management. Outside of my regular journey through school I often do some coaching with some colleagues of mine at Get Sharp Soccer LTD. My task was set to enhance young youths with the skills and knowledge needed for the game of soccer, both indoor and outdoor. I always set out to share the knowledge and skills I have with upcoming generations, for in the end it is the ones that shared what they knew made me into the man I am today.
